Everyone should get good healthcare and be treated with respect.

But Women of Color with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) can face barriers when getting healthcare.

These tools were created with Women of Color with I/DD. They shared their real experiences and ideas. The tools can also be helpful for anyone who wants support getting healthcare.

Self-Advocacy Tools

There are 8 tools to help you:

  • Speak up about what you need.
  • Get ready for healthcare visits.
  • Ask questions and understand your choices.
  • Have a say in decisions about your healthcare.
  • Speak up if you are not treated fairly because of your race, gender, or disability.

You can use the tools online or print them out and bring them to a healthcare visit
