Self Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE) and the partners of the Self Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center (SARTAC) are pleased to announce the 2025-2026 SARTAC Fellowship Award recipients.

Six Fellows were chosen through a competitive application process to carry out independently designed self advocacy leadership and policy-related projects. This is the fifth group of SARTAC Fellows. Fellows are listed below with their hometown, brief biography, title and summary of their project, and Host organization.

Fellowship Project: Advocating for a New You while Navigating a New Medical Diagnosis.

Angela is a disability advocate and business owner who provides disability case management services.

Angela’s Fellowship Project: Advocating for a New You while Navigating a New Medical Diagnosis. The project will use Angela’s personal journey with Spina Bifida to create a digital tool that helps people with disabilities feel ready for medical appointments and hospital stays with confidence.

Fellowship Project: EmpowHer Capital Building Self Advocacy for Young Women with Disabilities in Albany

Elizabeth works in public policy and cares a lot about helping other people with disabilities speak up, lead, and get involved in their communities.

Elizabeth’s Fellowship Project: EmpowHer Capital Building Self Advocacy for Young Women with Disabilities in Albany. The project will use Elizabeth’s experience to mentor girls with disabilities who are part of a yearlong program called EmpowHer Camp.

Hailey Montgomery

Fellowship Project: Friendship Guidebook for States

Hailey was the first high school student in Chicago to intern as a member of Congress. Later chosen by the U.S. Department of Labor to talk with state senators and national education leaders about issues that were important to them.

Hailey’s Fellowship Project: Friendship Guidebook for States. Hailey wrote a book called My Friend’s Autism: Advice from Someone who is Autistic, His Friends, Classmates, Teammates, Mentors, and Family from Elementary School through the College Years.” Hailey decided the book could help more people by adding a guide.

Fellowship Project: Technology is for Everyone.

Robert is a college student who likes to write in a way that helps people imagine through stories and words.

Robert’s Fellowship Project: Technology is for Everyone. Robert plans to have classes that will help self advocates to set goals for using computers, smartphones, and other technology more safely.
